Lesley joined the station in October, 2010, bringing with her a wealth of experience in the broadcasting and music industries. Leading Otago Access Radio through its transition to FM has been the first of many exciting projects for Lesley. Looking ahead, the prospect of building on the station’s already wide base of programme makers is something that excites and motivates her.

Jeff joined the team at the beginning of 2011 to help extend and strengthen the station’s links with the wider Otago community, encourage participation and information sharing, and to help out with day-to-day business. Jeff also hosts the OARsome Morning Show, weekdays 8am and 9:30am. He’s a musician and small-business owner, and has a background in the public service and print media.

Arina started at OAR as a volunteer in 2020. Today, she is passionate about empowering quiet voices in the community and creating meaningful connections with our diverse multicultural communities in Ōtepoti. Arina supports young people through Youth Zone, and hosts The Arinality – Cultural Identities of Women in Aotearoa, Connecting Cultures Features, Muslim Chaplaincy Conversations, and Vibe Check. On weekends, Arina helps manage her family’s Malaysian food business, Kampung Dunedin.

Geoff has been with the Dunedin-based Community Access station since September 2007, making him the guru of all things technical. He plays a vital role in keeping the station on air and in training the many programme makers, volunteers and school groups who use the Otago Access Radio facilities.

Domi’s association with the station began in 2007 as co-host of a music show. These days, he manages station operations including special projects, administration and assisting with technical and production duties.

Hills Radio Trust

The Hills Radio Trust was established in 2000 to provide governance for what is now known as Otago Access Radio (formerly Hills AM and Toroa Radio). Made up of volunteers, the Trust meets regularly throughout the year and ensures that OAR FM has the necessary financial, legal and governance support to ensure it is sustainable into the future.

Debbie Roe - Trust Chair

Debbie has been chairperson for Hills Radio Trust since 2021 and is proud to be able to support the Management and staff of Otago Access Radio in their aim to embody the spirit of community by providing opportunities for people of all backgrounds and beliefs to have their voices heard.  Debbie has managed organisations in the social service sector for over 18 years and has a strong interest in not-for-profit governance.

Alistair Addis – Trustee

Alistair Addis is the  owner of a software development company specialising in music-related businesses. He is a past presenter of music shows on OAR FM and an avid follower of contemporary film, music and local, national and international politics.

Teresa Chan – Trustee

Teresa joined the Board in 2021. She is an experienced property, business and immigration lawyer, and has various governance experience in the community sector. She has been the chair of the Dunedin Shanghai Association since 2016, and the Chair/President of the Otago & Southland Branch of the NZ Chinese Association since 2013.

As an immigrant herself, Teresa understands that cultural identity is important to many of us, born here or overseas. To her, pride in one’s culture helps us to be confident of our place in the world.  That can only make better communities.

Simon Vare – Trustee

Simon began his journey with Otago Access Radio back in 1991 in his final year as manager at student radio station Radio One 91 FM, instigating the formation of the Otago Community Broadcasters Society alongside NZ On Air and the Dunedin City Council Community team. He was an employee at OCBS in those formative years, from 1992-94, which saw the establishment of the first station out in South Dunedin . Since those times he has kept an eye on proceedings, including numerous interviews and being a presenter in the Kilts ‘n Kiwi show promoting the Dunedin Edinburgh Sister City Society and its ‘Celebrate St Andrews Day’ events. Simon is currently occupied in a range of musical services, including music distribution, artist management, tour organisation and promotion under the Yellow Eye Company moniker.

Lorraine Johnston – Trustee

Lorraine joined the Trust in November 2023 and has served in governance roles for a number of not-for-profits, including MS Otago and the Globe Theatre. Lorraine is retired after a varied career in banking, academia and librarianship. Her academic background is in Māori Studies teaching te reo. (Photo: Don Townsend)
