What lessons did your nana teach you about the world around you?
A new programme and podcast on OAR FM explores the idea that connecting to nature also means connecting to the intergenerational hands that helped raise us.
Nana Nature host Namrata Chand, a Fijian of Indian descent, holds conversations with guests from a range of cultural backgrounds, exploring the wisdom, traditions, memories, and everyday habits passed down through generations and how they connect us to the natural world.
Ms Chand said she was interested in the ways that people maintain their relationship with the environment, particularly when they are living far from their ancestral home.
“The beauty of this show is that everyone’s experiences are so deeply personal.
“We reflect a lot on memories of growing up, what their grandmothers have taught them and what treasures they have passed them.”
Studio guests would have the opportunity to pass their own wisdom on to future generations.
“I want everyone who comes on the podcast to be able to gift something to their family, with their own voices and stories, that can be listened to in ten years’ time.”
Nana Nature is broadcast every second Friday at 5.30pm on 105.4FM and 1575AM. Podcasts are available from oar.org.nz and other major platforms.
