OAR FM is inviting young people aged 12-24 to share what identity means to them.
“Layers of Identity” is a creative writing and podcast project celebrating the diverse voices of Dunedin youth.
Launched on Race Relations Day and Unesco World Poetry Day at an event at Dunedin City Library, the project offers an opportunity to explore whakapapa and contribute stories of their identity, culture and sense of belonging, through poetry and essays.
Contributors to the series record a reading of their work, and a short interview, for broadcast and podcast on OAR FM.
Every young person involved in the project will also have their poem or essay published in a book, thanks to support from Dunedin Unesco City of Literature.
Funding from a Dunedin City Council Arts Grant has supported the recording, editing, broadcast and podcast costs.
Seven young people from a range of cultural backgrounds have already shared their writing and their thoughts on the project with OAR FM listeners.
Expressions of interest for the next cohort of contributors are now open.
Anyone seeking more information should email their name and contact details to [email protected], with “Layers of Identity” in the subject line.
Layers of Identity airs on Saturdays at 12.30pm, replayed the following Friday at 3.30pm on 105.4FM and 1575AM.
Podcasts are available here.
