Steering Group Invitation

OAR FM GigCity Project ‘Youth Focused Digital Platform for Mobile Devices’ Update and Invitation to Steering Group

Thank you so much for your involvement with the OAR FM GigCity Project workshops and focus groups. We are gathering some of the star participants to put together a steering group that will guide us in the development of this project and would love you to be part of it. We will keep you up to date with our progress and occasionally bring you all together to discuss and test the product. Our first steering group meeting is scheduled for (See Doodle Poll), in the Brian Arnold Room in Dunedin Community House.

This group will meet 3 or 4 times over the next six months, and there will be pizza and other food to keep us going!

Project Update:

We have completed five workshops gathering feedback from young people about the development of a Digital Content Platform for Otago Access Radio. After sifting through the feedback, discussions with professionals and guidelines from GigCity Dunedin - we are considering the development of an app as the key digital platform for accessing youth-focused content, and for interacting with young people who engage with that content.

There are pros and cons about following this path and would value your feedback so we can discuss and refine these ideas and features.

Here is the scope of the project so far:

Youth Zone Mobile App

Developed by students from the Otago Polytechnic Community Cluster

Platform: Android (possibly iOS)

Potential Main App Functions:

  • Access to Podcasts (Use of RSS Feeds)
  • Displaying Youth Zoner Created Content - Audio, Video, Graphics, Text
  • Recording/Uploading (to Google Drive or Dropbox)
  • Youth Zone Gig Guide
  • Push Notifications
  • Sharing to Facebook

Design

  • Easy Content Update
  • Visual Flow Important
  • Displaying Media  - Video, Photo, Text, ‘Stories’ or ‘Blog’ posts

App Users

  • YZ Content Creators
  • School Groups / Media Classes
  • Listeners
    • Local Young People
    • Musicians
    • Community Groups

Next Steps

From the next steering group meeting we want to discuss the following things;

  • What apps you use, and why you like them (please bring examples)
  • Feedback on this current project outline
  • Other features that you think would be important for the app
  • Priorities of these features
  • Discuss design features

We would value your input on our steering group. Please let me know if you are interested (via email or messenger) and we will see you at (See Doodle Poll), in the Brian Arnold Room in Dunedin Community House.
